About the author
Short bio
Liz Hurley was born in Norwich and lives on the north coast of Cornwall. A former librarian and bookseller, she founded Mudlark’s Press in 2016 and writes walking guides under her own name, women’s fiction as Liz Hurley, fantasy and science fiction as Eva St John and crime as Anna Penrose.
Long bio
Liz Hurley was born and brought up in Norwich, and spent years moving between Ireland, Wales and Cornwall. She trained as a librarian, then set up a bookshop in Mevagissey with her husband.
She started Mudlark’s Press in 2016 to publish walking guides for the visitors who came through the shop door. Those guides became the Cornish Walks series – eight books and counting. Along the way she wrote a newspaper column for the Cornish Guardian and a short history of Mevagissey.
Then came the fiction. As Liz Hurley she writes the Hiverton Sisters, five sisters who inherit a title they never asked for; the first book was shortlisted for the RNA’s debut award. As Anna Penrose she writes the Golden Murder Mysteries, set in a fictional Cornish fishing village; the first two were shortlisted for the Holyer an Gof awards. As Eva St John she wrote the Quantum Curators and now the Norwich Map Runners, which brings her back to the city she grew up in. The first, Flint in the Bones, won the Fiction category at the 2026 Selfies Book Awards.
She spoke at The Self Publishing Show LIVE! in 2022 and has volunteered there every year since. She now lives on the north coast of Cornwall.
