About Mudlark's Press
Welcome,
I'm Liz Hurley, I started Mudlark's Press in 2016 to publish walking guides, bringing the beauty of Cornwall to visitors at the bookshop my husband, Stephen, and I run in Mevagissey. Our shop is called Hurley Books and is just a few yards from the sea. The name Mudlark’s is an old family nickname from when we used to play around as kids, finding stuff in the river. It felt like the perfect name for a small collection of various titles. Each a small treasure ready to be uncovered.
Since those walking guides, I’ve branched into fiction across various genres, each with its own unique world. To keep things simple for my readers, I’ve created different pen names for each series. I’m especially excited that the Hiverton Sisters series, first published by Hera Books, is now back under the Mudlarks Press imprint.
Whether you're looking for a guide to Cornwall’s paths or a story to get lost in, I hope you find something here that brings you joy! Below is a list of the pen names that I use.
Eva St John is the imaginative author of the Quantum Curators series, a collection of science fiction novels that blend time travel, alternate histories, and thrilling adventures. The series begins with The Quantum Curators and the Fabergé Egg, where readers are introduced to Neith Salah, a quantum curator tasked with retrieving priceless artifacts from parallel Earths, and Julius Strathclyde, a Cambridge professor who becomes entangled in her mission.
As the series progresses through titles like The Quantum Curators and the Enemy Within and The Quantum Curators and the Missing Codex, St. John crafts intricate plots filled with suspense, humour, and rich character development.
Her storytelling is reminiscent of the adventurous spirit found in works by Genevieve Cogman and the wit of Terry Pratchett, offering readers a captivating journey through time and parallel worlds.
Liz Hurley, author of the charming Hiverton Sisters series, captures the essence of British countryside romance and family drama in her delightfully heartwarming novels. The series follows the four Hiverton sisters as they navigate unexpected inheritances, renovate crumbling estates, and rediscover love amidst rolling hills and small-town gossip. Beginning with A New Life for Ariana Byrne, Hurley's books celebrate resilience, sisterhood, and the importance of community, offering a cozy escape that will appeal to fans of Jenny Colgan and Katie Fforde. With humour, warmth, and a knack for creating memorable characters, Hurley invites readers to experience the highs and lows of village life alongside the spirited Hiverton family. Each novel is filled with laughter, a touch of romance, and the comforting charm of an idyllic English setting.
Anna Penrose is the author of the Golden Murder Mysteries, a series of cozy crime novels set in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Golden. The series introduces Malachite Peck, a disgraced city banker seeking a fresh start, who becomes an amateur sleuth entangled in the village's dark secrets. The first book, "The Body in the Wall," follows Malachite as she uncovers a hidden body during her bookshop renovations, leading to a gripping investigation.
The second instalment, "Dead Winter Bones," involves the discovery of ancient bones at Liggan Manor, sparking a modern-day killing spree.
In the third book, "Death at Castle Wolf," Malachite's bridge weekend at an island resort turns perilous after a bride's mysterious drowning.
Penrose's storytelling, characterized by intricate plots and rich character development, appeals to fans of Anthony Horowitz and Richard Osman, offering a blend of suspense and charm in a quintessentially British setting.
Liz Hurley’s Cornish Walks guides are a delightful invitation to explore the breathtaking landscapes, hidden paths, and coastal beauty of Cornwall. Crafted for walkers of all levels, these guides are rich with detailed routes, fascinating historical insights, and vivid descriptions of local landmarks, making each journey through Cornwall an experience that is as educational as it is inspiring. Hurley combines her passion for nature with a storyteller’s touch, drawing comparisons to the works of Alfred Wainwright and Cicerone Press. Her guides are not only practical but also celebrate the enchanting allure of Cornwall, offering readers an immersive experience that makes every walk feel like a personal adventure through history, culture, and stunning natural beauty.
